Saving Faith

Saving Faith
Saving Faith

“But to all who received Him and believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. They were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12-13*).

Last time we talked about the knowledge that forms the foundation of true faith. Now let's focus on the remaining elements of saving faith.

The knowledge of who Christ is and what He has done must be accompanied by the conviction that these facts are true and apply to us:

  • Recognize that we have all transgressed God's law.
  • Acknowledge that no effort of ours can earn God's favor.
  • Agree that the Lord Jesus died for the world: He paid for all our sins.
  • Believe that His death is sufficient to pay for our sins and nothing else is required.
  • Accept that He paid the price and bore the punishment in our place.
  • Embrace with faith that we are adopted into God's family based on Christ's redemptive sacrifice.

Once we are convinced that the Lord Jesus is our Savior, trust manifests through action. As new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17), we are no longer the same. Christ holds supreme authority in our lives and He alone deserves to be our number one priority. He knows what is pleasing to God the Father and sends His Spirit to live in us and teach us.

Take time to examine yourself to see if you have knowledge, conviction, and trust. Then pray to thank God for true saving faith or ask Him for this gracious gift (Ephesians 2:8-9).
