Walking with Faith

Walking with Faith
Walking with Faith

"Then the word of the Lord came to him: 'This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.' The Lord took Abram outside and said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.' Then He said to him, 'So shall your offspring be.' Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness" (Genesis, ch. 15, v. 4-6*).

Separation is often part of our development as Christians. Before embarking on something new, the Lord may want us to let go of something else. In Genesis, ch. 12, v. 1-3, God tells Abraham to start a journey that requires leaving his country, his people, and his father's household. Obedience, for him at that moment, means saying goodbye to relationships and things that are dear to him. Yet this godly man does not hesitate. His strong faith enables him to say 'yes' to God's command.

Following God with faithfulness may require moving forward amidst uncertainty. Abraham sets out for a destination unknown to him. Try picturing explaining to your friends that you're moving but have no idea where. This lack of details doesn't deter Abraham. His unwavering trust in his heavenly Father allows him to respond to God's calling with his whole heart, even without knowing the specifics. Abraham is spiritually prepared to obey when the Lord calls him.

Following God requires a life of faith. It means trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit even when we can't see how all the pieces fit together (John, ch. 16, v. 13), believing that God is always working for our good and for His glory, and being willing to please Him. Let us all, like Abraham, be ready when God calls us.
