"You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is the fullness of joy, at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (Ps. 16:11*).
Most people appear happy on the outside. But beneath the surface, some experience emptiness. In fact, it is very possible to be surrounded by a large crowd of people and still feel lonely.
There is a reason for this: humans are created with a longing that only God can satisfy. Individuals cannot experience fullness until they encounter God's transformative and unconditional love. The Lord Jesus says, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10*). In other words, He wants us to feel complete, which can only happen through a relationship with Him.
And yet, even a person who is saved can feel empty. Sometimes this is a result of disobedience: going off the path with God can become a way of life that deprives the believer of deep satisfaction. It is also possible for a Christian to live according to God's principles without fully surrendering to God. Many believers, for instance, still try to fill their inner void with achievements, wealth, or human relationships. When these pursuits take priority over the Lord, they can lead to a sense of dissatisfaction. Abundant life is possible only when we seek God above all else. Pray for His guidance as you examine your heart. Confess your sin if there is any, and ask the Lord to fill your life as only He can.
