"And those He chose before creation, He predestined to be like His Son, so that Christ might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified" (Rom. 8:29-30*).

It is tempting to think that we don't need much improvement. Although many people admit that they probably need some "repair work" in certain areas, they usually add, "But I'm a good person." The truth, however, is that God the Father refuses to be satisfied with humanity's imperfect view of "good enough." He wants something much more for us.

The Lord sees every believer as the person they would be when they fully surrender themselves to Christ. Thus, He commits to achieving this complete transformation by shaping the person into the image of His Son (1 Cor. 15:49). The primary step in God's renewing action is the removal of everything in our lives that is not God-honoring. This process is often painful, but it is worthwhile. The Lord targets habits, behaviors, and relationships that do not honor Him. He directs our attention to these places so that we may surrender them to Him.

When we align our will with God's, we change. The pain during our renewal process may momentarily obscure the beauty of God's design. But nothing is more magnificent to God than a devoted follower who obeys Him no matter what. Surrender yourself to God so that He can shape you into the son or daughter He intended you to be.
