God chose what is foolish in this world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in this world to shame the strong; God chose what is lowly and despised in this world and which is nothing, to overthrow what is something, so that no one may boast before God" (1 Cor. 1:26–29*).
This is a principle that we can see throughout the entire Bible, starting with Moses, who could not speak well but was sent by the Lord to intercede for His people, through David, who as a child faced the fearsome warrior Goliath, and reaching to the ordinary fishermen whom the Lord Jesus chose as His disciples and proclaimers of the gospel. The strength comes from God, and when we acknowledge our weakness, we allow God's power to manifest through us.
When Gideon gathered 32,000 Israelites to fight the Midianites, who numbered 135,000, the Lord commanded him to reduce his army to 300 men: "Through these three hundred men…I will deliver you and give the Midianites into your hand" (Judges 7:7*). From a human perspective, this seemed impossible. But God was pleased to show His strength through the meager odds of this small army. In the end, that is exactly what happened—they won this seemingly impossible battle. The victory comes from the Lord, not from our abilities, no matter how good they may be.
The Apostle Paul received the following assurance from God: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Cor. 12:9*).
If you feel like you lack strength, knowledge, or skills, do not be discouraged—God uses people like you to display His might and wisdom.
